Papercraft Star Challenge #48

It's a photo inspiration challenge this week at Papercraft Star with a theme of wedding or anniversary.  White and soft yellow--very pretty combination.  For my card I started with a yellow base and added a mat of white that I embossed with swiss dots.  I did some machine stitching in yellow around the edge of the mat piece.  The flower was a white Prima that I painted with Creative Inspirations paint.  It has such a beautiful shimmer to it.  I inked the edges of the doily heart with some yellow chalk and added a yellow ribbon around the bottom of the card.
For the month of June we are working with some stamps from our wonderful team mate Cecilia, who has recently started her own stamp company, Tradefish Designs.

I'm using one of the sentiment stamps from the Missing You stamp set.  It stamped like a dream, clear and crisp!  I've popped in on top of a Nestabilites tag die cut and added some white brads.
I went for the anniversary theme since I have anniversary on the brain.  LOL  Hubby and I celebrated 25 years in December and we are about to embark on a two week vacation for just the "You + Me = We" two of us.  Can't wait!
Our link up will be open through 9:00 p.m. EST on Sunday for this challenge so let's see what you can come up with.
     Happy crafting!

Vintage Garden

(To see the card I posted earlier today for Kirsty's Birthday Blog Hop click here.)
This image is the last in a set of three I purchased from A Day For Daisies a while back.  I dug out my BG Curio 6x6 pad for the papers and the little flower girl is colored with Copics.
This project is another one of my "when the mood strikes" cards.  They seem to come late at night. *sigh*  But I sure have fun while I'm making them.
It was also fun just to play and make a card for no reason but that I wanted to.  Hope you like it.

Happy Birthday Kirsty!

Today is a special day for a very sweet friend.  Her name is Kirsty Vittetoe and she is the founder of City Crafter Challenge Blog and Pixie Dust Paperie.  Now I know you all have heard me sing the praises of the CCCB cause it's one of my most favorite places to play.  So, when the DT girls asked me to participate in a birthday blog hop for Kirsty I was more than happy to join in the fun.
So this is the card I made for Kirsty.  The image is colored with Copics and I've used lavender and punchwork in Kirsty's honor.  :-)

     Happy Birthday Kirsty!

If you haven't joined in the challenges at CCCB you should really give them a try the DT provides such wonderful inspiration and encouragement.
     Have a wonderful weekend!

What's Up Dude?

(Edit:  This post was up yesterday(Thursday)!!!   I thought my Blogger account was back to normal, but it totally wiped out this post!  Grumble Grumble.  For those Thursday challenges that I entered, I promise it was here yesterday.  You can check the comments section to see when my friends left comments yesterday.)

My blogger account is still messed up, that's what's up!  Obviously judging by the above note, yesterdays "repairs" didn't fix the problem.  Thanks to my friend Nancy I  now know how to get around the commenting problem but have other issues.
I still have one more DT card to make and three to post before I have all my obligations taken care of before we leave on our trip.  But, I said it before, and I'll say it again.  When the inspiration strikes--you better jump on it!
You all left me such wonderful comments about my "On the Horizon" card and I was really pleased with the way the water came out on it.  Well It didn't place at Make It Colourful for the spotted background challenge (I didn't expect it to since I only used the dots on a little patch of sand), but when Zoe announced this weeks challenge as "color a water scene"--I bet EVERY one of you heard me groan!  I told some of you that I was sure that card was a total fluke and I'd never be able to do it again so to even contemplate trying it again would mean taking on a huge personal challenge.  I couldn't resist.  One of the reasons I like the MIC challenges so much is that they make me grow and learn how to expand my coloring knowledge.
     Sooooo . . . I gave it another shot.
The image is "Surfer Dude', a brand new one from Mo's Digital Pencil.  I'm happy with the dude, pretty happy with the second attempt at coloring water, and no so happy with the sky.  I overthought the process and it didn't come out like I wanted it to.  Oh well, two out of three ain't bad as Meatloaf said.  Oh gosh did I just date myself!!!  LOL
The image is colored with Copics.  For the water, I once again added a little puffy paint for the breakers and the foam on the sand.  For the sand itself, I wanted the part nearest the water to have a wet look so I took a teeny tiny bit of Glossy Accents and painted it on with a teeny tiny brush very thinly.  You can't see it at all in the first photo so here's a closer view.  If you blow the pic up you can see it much better.
As For the rest of the card, I added some fun meshy ribbon that matched the color scheme, Stickles, pearls, a decorative corner, and a sentiment using a brand new set of sentiment stamps I just got from my Papercraft Star team mate Cecilia Stephens who just came out with her own line of stamps, Tradefish Designs.  The "sandy" mat panel was just a simple tan and I wanted to give it a little more umph so I sprayed it with a couple of Glimmer Mists that gave it sparkle and a textured look.
Dude is really cool with his hemp jewelry so I decided to give that a try.  Don't look to closely for precision knotting.  I was doing that at 12:30/1:00 am last night.  LOL  I just thought it was a cute little extra embellishment.  I've had that tiny shell punch forever and never used it.  Found it while I was digging around last night and punched three of them from the DP.  I used an embossing stylus to round the shell and put a little pop dot underneath to hold the dimension.  Then I dressed them up with some little pearls.
     Guess that about covers it.
I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Charisma Cardz--for a male
Some Odd Girl--make a scene
Crafting For All Seasons--anything goes
Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge--here comes summer
Digital Tuesday--add some texture

Papercraft Star Challenge #47

For this weeks sketch at Papercraft Star I've used some beautiful Prima papers my bestest buddy Jan sent me.  When I saw the sketch I knew I wanted to use one of the big Prima daisy flowers I have and then the little light bulb went off that the Prima papers would match perfectly with it.  So here we have it.  No Copics!  Can you believe it!  LOL  With this paper you need very little else.  It's so beautiful.
This is the last week to play along for a chance at this month's Grand Prize sponsored by The Paper Trail.  Link up your submission by 9:00 p.m EST Sunday.
     Happy Wednesday!

Blogger!!!!! ARRGGHH!!

Just wanted to let all my friends know that Blogger is not letting me comment on your blogs.  Although I am signed in fine on the Google Reader and G-mail, it will not let me "sign in" and stay signed in to my blog page so it won't recognize me when I try to make a comment.  I see from the Help page I'm not the only one having this problem.  If anyone know the solution please let me know.  Otherwise, I just wanted to let you know I wasn't ignoring you.
Hugs!

The Kraft Journal Challenge #20

This week's challenge at The Kraft Journal is "Clean and Simple".  Whew!  I have to tell you this was hard for me.  I kept wanting to add more stuff and had to remind myself--CAS!
The base of my card is Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock.  The mat is Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock.  I used some pretty Basic Grey Capella papers matted on more of the brown kraft.  The image is a lovely camellia I stamped on vellum with copper ink.  It doesn't look coppery at all, but more of a soft pink which is really pretty with the kraft and buff.  I added clear embossing powder to the ink before drying with a heat gun.  The butterfly is covered with the same copper ink.  I used some of the Natural Twill Tape to add a little decoration at the bottom of the card.
So now you know.  It's CAS week so show us your take on that challenge and get it linked up by 6:00 p.m. EST Sunday.  Each time you play you go into the drawing for a $15.00 store voucher from Kraft Outlet.
     Have a great week!

A Baby Girl Mini

WARNING!!  Photo heavy!!

If you're a follower you probably remember the card I made a few weeks ago for my daughter's boss who is expecting her first child.  Well this is the mini album I made to go with the card.
As you can see it's a girl and her name is going to be Ansleigh.  The entire album is made with DCWV's Nana's Nursery papers.  I used a chipboard album for the base.  All the pages have hand stitching and inking around the edges.
For the cover I made all the flowers.  Some are inked, some are Glimmer Misted and rolled, and some are Glimmer Misted seam binding.  The ribbon slide is chipboard covered in Crackle paint.  I crocheted the butterfly and gave him a bling trail.  The baby shoes were created from a pattern I found here.  I resized them for the cover.  There are some bead charms I made and some pieces of fun fibers tied to the book ring.
For the first page I cut stars with a Sizzix die from a sheet of fleece I found at Hobby Lobby.  I thought it was felt at first.  It's soooo soft.  I added some buttons with embroidery thread, some fibers, and a cute ticket stub.
Page two has double postage stamp frames cut from a Sizzix die and covered in Crackle paint.  There are some more rolled roses and a couple of little chipboard pieces covered in paper and decorated with some Cosmo Cricket rub ons.
For this page I found the dress image online and printed it out to make a template.  The flowers are punched and inked and the sentiment is on another little chipboard piece.  Isn't that little duckie by the flowers cute!  He's a button I cut the back off of.
Page four has a large photo mat tucked behind some fleece flowers.  The banner was created with a Nestie die and strung on some embroidery thread with pearl spacers.
Page five is a punched flower frenzy.  I made the bib by cutting out an oval with a Nestie and then cutting out the neck with a circle Nestie.  I ruffled some pink ribbon and covered the neckline with some more of it.
For page six I used some more punched flowers and cut the frame out with a Nestie die.  The butterfly is a MS punch and I gave him a pretty bling trail too.  He has embroidery thread antennae.
You can't have a baby album without a diaper in it!  I found the pattern here.  I wanted it to have the feel of a cloth diaper so I covered the paper with some thin cotton fabric which made it so easy to add those little "diaper" pins.  The lace has a pretty white ribbon run through the middle, but I found some matching green fiber in my stash and ran that through on top of it.  There's another handmade flower too.
Page eight was the hardest page.  Not because it was all that difficult, but because I kept cutting it wrong.  I wanted to keep the little animals from being covered so I decided to make the page a pocket.  I cut the paper along one of the pattern lines and added a little lip of cardstock to help make the pocket opening easier to find.  The two tags just slide right in.  I added some ABC buttons on some little fleece flowers and ruffled some more ribonn which I added on top of a pretty piece of lace.
And here's the back cover.  I found a sweet Helen Steiner Rice poem and added my name and the date by gluing on a piece of acetate I printed out the info on.
I hope you like the album.  I think I'll give it a whirl in a few challenges.
Top Tip Tuesday--one for the kids
Digi Design house--anything but a card
Inspire Me Fridays--anything goes
Divas By Design--one for the girls
My Mum's Craft Shop--anything but square
Have a blessed day!

Papercraft Star Challenge #46

This turned into a two day project!  Not that it was hard, but I just couldn't get my idea to solidify.  Well here's the end result.  Papercraft Star's challenge this week is a sketch one.  I decided to try out another 12 x 12 layout and I picked one of my favorite subjects to scrap, an ancestor.
This is about my great-grandfather.  I have to admit I'm a little obsessed about the man.  He died the month before I was born and I'm so sorry I never got to meet him.  Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY talks about how wonderful he was.  He never had much cause he gave it all away to help other people.  The one thing he managed to hang onto is the old homestead I live on.  It's been in the family ever since he bought it almost 100 years ago!
This photo is of one of the boats that he worked on.  I'm not sure if he designed this particular one, but it's highly likely.  He built boats for people all along the Gulf Coast.  My uncle has tons of photos of TONS of his boats and I even have some of his design blueprints around here somewhere.  For the tag, I found one of his little notebooks and copied a page that he had written a bunch of measurements on for a boat he was building for someone in Port Sulphur, Louisiana.

For a little added interest I bought a piece of balsa wood at Michael's cut it into lengths and pieced it together to simulate the building of the boat.  I used some teeny tiny brads for the nails.  I found a few of his old work badges in a box and copied one twice.  I cut the photo out of one and sandwiched a  piece of acetate between the two to mimic the original badge.
The base paper was sprayed with Glimmer Mist after I attached the big Tim holtz mask.  After it dried, I went around the mask with a little Fired Brick Distress ink to carry over the red matting into the background.
So let us see what you can come up with for this sketch challenge and get your project linked up by 9:00 p.m. EST on Sunday for a chance at this months Grand prize sponsored by The Paper Trail.
     Have a great week!

The Kraft Journal Challenge #19

May 21 is Armed Forces Day and of course May 30 is Memorial Day so to go along with these special dates our challenge this week at The Kraft Journal is "Stand and Salute".
For my card I used a base of Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock.  I also used this for some of the matting.  I found several sheets of patriotic patterned paper and created a center panel using some layered chipboard stars that I painted with Crackle paint and inked as faux buttons.  They are tied with Red Baker's Twine.  There's also a little tab made of Natural Twill Tape and secured to the card with a metal brad.
Let us see what your interpretation of this weeks theme is.  Remember you must use kraft paper on your project OR a Kraft Outlet product.  You have until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday to get your project linked up.
Have a great week!

On the Horizon

I had to laugh when I read my friend Linda's blog post and she said she was having withdrawl symptoms when Blogger was down cause I was too!  It was like we all got frozen in time and couldn't go forward.  I did get a lot of work done though.
I really should be working on a mini album I've started, but you know how it goes.  When the inspiration strikes one must act. {grin}  This card was created because of inspiration from several challenges.
The image is colored with Copic markers.  I created the beach scene background and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.  Did you notice the sea foam near the shore?  That's just a tiny little bit of puffy paint.  I used Annika's cloud technique again and tried some stippling for the sand.
I couldn't believe it when I googled poetry about the sea and this Emily Dickinson poem popped up.  It fit so well with the image.

By the Sea
I started early, took my dog,
And visited the sea;
The mermaids in the basement
Came out to look at me.

I hand stitched around the sentiment.  There was no way I was going to attempt to do that on the machine!  LOL
Hope you like the card.  I'd like to enter it into the following challenges:

A Papercraft Star Tutorial

Note:  I didn't realize Blogger had wiped out this post so if any of you were looking for it--it's baaacckk!  LOL

It's my turn to do this week's tutorial for Papercraft Star.  I don't know about you, but I'm always searching the web for new techniques.  A while back I created a card with some lattice work on it.  It came out okay, but I was really winging it when I put it together.  I found a tutorial that showed me a few minor adjustments I could make so I decided to try it again and share a refined version of a lattice work card with you.
For my card I chose to make it a 5 1/2" square card.  I cut that from white cardstock and I also cut another square of white at 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".  For the front mat I chose a cream colored cardstock and cut it at 5 1/4" x 5 1/4".  I placed glue around the outer edges of the cream piece and adhered it to the front of the base card.  The white square goes on the inside behind the front panel.  It will hide all the edges of the lattice strips.

I placed a little Two-way glue pen on the edges of the white piece and let it get tacky so I could temporarily adhere it to the inside of the card for the die cutting.  I used a Cuttlebug and a Nestabilities die and I have to admit it was tough cutting through three layers of paper.  I ended up removing the top two layers after they were cut through and replacing the die over the last layer before it would completly cut through.  You can avoid that problem by eliminating the mat.
I used a Nestabilities Labels One die and positioned it on top of the three layers, tacking it down with a little tape.
Here's what the pieces look like after cutting.  By the time I'd run it through the Cuttlebug so many times the Two Way glue had become permanent and I had a few rough spots on the card base after I separated them.  It all gets covered up so no harm no foul.
Now you can start weaving your lattice.  I cut 1/4" strips of white cardstock.  I started in the middle of the shape (by the way you can use any shape you want) and tacked the ends down with a little wet glue.
There is no set spacing or number of rows.  I just settled on a random line on my quilting square grid ruler and used that measurement on all the spacing.  Go ahead and lay all your strips down for the first direction.
After your first strips are adhered you need to start weaving in the strips going the opposite direction.  Make sure you alternate them like I've indicated on the photo.
After you have all your strips adhered, you will adhere the white cardstock square that you die cut to the inside of the front of the card.  This covers all those little strip ends.
I ended up adding a cream square cut at 5 1/4' x 5 1/4" behind the lattice work because the backs of all my flowers were visible and I'd used some brads--messy!
Hope you like the tutorial.  This is the card I created using this technique.
Have a great Thursday!

Papercraft Star Challenge #45

This week's photo inspiration for Papercraft Star definitely took me out of my comfort zone.  Lime green in NOT a color I work with often. :-)  I found this cool freebie digi at Birdscards.com a while back and decided to give it a try for this challenge.  It's colored with Copics and then I covered the image with Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint.  This was a toughy for me, but maybe some of you know exactly how to create something based on this photo.  Let's see!  Link up your submissions by 9:00 p.m. EST on Sunday.  Our Grand Prize Sponsor this month is The Paper Trail.
     Happy Wednesday!

The Kraft Journal Challenge #18

This card is dedicated to my fellow teamie at The Kraft Journal, Kristina Harmon.  A long long time ago we discovered we both share a great love for all things chicken. {grin}  When I found this image I immediately thought of her.
This was such a fun and easy card to make.  The base is Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock.  I cut a second mat of the same paper so I could do the stitching and not have it show on the inside of the card.  I also stamped it with a splotch stamp.  Kinda looks like some of those chicken eggs huh.
The band across the center was punched out of Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock  I also used some of this paper to cover the handmade buttons I used for the flower centers.  The buttons are three layers of chipboard glued together.  The bows are tied with Red Bakers Twine.  For the sentiment I used a Round Metal Edge Grungy Prim Tag.  Hope it makes you smile.
You have until 6:00 p.m. EST Sunday to get your interpretation of our "Buttons and Bows" challenge linked up.  Every time you enter you get your name in the hat for the monthly drawing for a $15.00 store voucher from Kraft Outlet.  Trust me, you won't have any trouble spending it on Babette's great products.
